Defoe ruled out of Chelsea clash

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has been ruled out of tonight's crucial Premier League clash with Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

The England international missed Sunday's 1-0 win against Sunderland with a hamstring injury and has not recovered in time to face their west London rivals.

Defoe was unlikely to start in any case but his absence gives Harry Redknapp less options on the bench.

The 29-year-old striker joins Aaron Lennon on the sidelines, while Gareth Barry faces a race to recover from an ankle injury.

Younes Kaboul returns from suspension, Emmanuel Adebayor has a minor foot injury but should play, while long-term absentees Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and Michael Dawson (Achilles) remain sidelined.

John Terry is fit and will start despite being charged with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand on Wednesday.

Terry, who categorically denies the allegation, has shaken off the Achilles tweak he suffered during open training on Monday and will lead out the side.

Midfielder Ramires has recovered from a leg injury but defender David Luiz is still out with a knee problem, joining long-term injury victim Michael Essien on the sidelines.
