Defoe expects tough Blues test

Defoe marked his first 90 minutes since August with two trademark goals as Spurs drew 3-3 at FC Twente to secure top spot in Champions League Group A on Tuesday night. The 28-year-old recently returned from 10 weeks out after suffering ankle ligament damage on England duty at the start of September. He took out his "frustration" on Dutch champions Twente and he looks determined to do the same when Spurs host faltering Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend. The champions have gone four matches without a league win, surrendering top spot, and are now only four points clear of in-form Tottenham. Revealing he felt "a lot stronger than before", Defoe acknowledged it was a good time to being playing the Blues but was also wary of a backlash. "Top teams like that - when they've had a little bit of a blip and they're not playing as well as they normally do - sometimes they can just turn it on," he said. "So it's going to be a difficult game. Good that they're not winning games but it'll still be a difficult game." After struggling against the Premier League's so-called 'big four' for so long, Tottenham have won their last four league games against three of them: Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. "The team's come a long way, to be honest," Defoe said. "Last year set base really, beating the top teams. "We've done it again, beating Arsenal and Liverpool. "So we look forward to every game and we believe that - it doesn't matter who we play against - we can win the game and get three points. "I think it's always important to have that winning mentality. "The top sides always have it and I think we've definitely got that now." Meanwhile, Michael Dawson marked his first match for more than three months with a goal as a Spurs XI beat MK Dons 4-3 in a friendly on Wednesday. The defender, an unused substitute for the last two first-team games after recovering from knee and ankle ligament damage, completed the full 90 minutes at Spurs Lodge.
