Harry Redknapp says it will be a "miracle" if Michael Dawson plays again this season after the Tottenham defender suffered serious ankle and knee injuries during Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Stevenage.

Tottenham progressed to the last eight of the FA Cup with the replay win, but the victory was marred by the injuries to Dawson, who had to be carried off on a stretcher after falling awkwardly following an aerial challenge with defender Chris Beardsley.

Tottenham boss Redknapp said: "Michael has gone to hospital.

"It was his ankle and his knee. He has a pretty bad injury there.

"Looking at his injury it would be a miracle to think he is not (out for the season).

"You never know but it didn't look good at all. It is a big blow for us and for Michael.

"It's a big loss, he is a big professional. You want him around your team, that's for sure."

Dawson missed five months of action earlier this season with an ankle problem.
