Chelsea defender David Luiz has signed a new five-year deal with the defending Champions League champs.

The Brazil international's contract was signed after Saturday's 1-0 victory over Stoke despite having almost four years remaining on his existing deal.

The 25-year-old Brazil international has committed his long-term future to the Stamford Bridge outfit after being strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks.

Luiz joined Chelsea from Benfica for £25million in January 2011 and has since made 59 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring five goals.

Luiz told the club's official website: 'I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea.

'It is a great club and I look forward to winning more trophies here. I want to play for a long time at the top level - which is what playing for Chelsea means.

"I love everything about the club and especially the fans, who have made me very welcome and given me great support."
