Dalglish wants clinical finishing

The Reds squandered a number of opportunities in the recent 1-1 draws with Manchester United and Norwich in the Premier League and they showed further profligacy in the first half of Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth-round tie at Stoke before Luis Suarez's brace - including a sublime curling strike - secured them a 2-1 victory. Manager Dalglish insists he is simply pleased his players are carving out so many chances, although ahead of this evening's league trip to West Brom, the Scot has indicated there has been an extra emphasis in training on finishing. "I suppose everybody is a bit more conscious of it," Dalglish said. "It wasn't just the one game against Norwich, we had it the game before against United too when we should have won the game and missed a couple of chances. "The most important thing for us is to be creating chances. "We try to cover every option that we can, but you cannot replicate what happens on the pitch. "To be fair, the boys went out on Wednesday night and created another six really good chances in the first half, and then they got what they deserved by winning the match. "We'll continue to do our best to create chances and see where that takes us." Suarez is an injury doubt for the clash with Albion - in which Liverpool will be facing their former manager, Dalglish's predecessor Roy Hodgson - after coming off late on in the Stoke match with an ankle problem. Dalglish made eight changes for the tie at the Britannia Stadium and the likes of Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson are set to return to the first XI. The England pair have both recently recovered from injuries but Dalglish confirmed he left them out in midweek by choice. "He (Suarez) has had a bit of treatment," Dalglish said. "He has had a tough time recently, so we'll see how he is. "It was just part of the course of sensibility with Steven and Glen on Wednesday. "There was nothing wrong with them - they could both have played if they had to. It was our choice." Liverpool go into the contest unbeaten in six games in all competitions, while West Brom have recovered from a disappointing start to the campaign to go four league matches without defeat. Dalglish saw his team beaten 2-1 by Hodgson's at The Hawthorns last term and is not about to underestimate the Reds' task this evening. "We got beaten there last year so we know what we are up against," Dalglish said. "Every game is different and we're hoping this one will be different as well. "We can only prepare ourselves the best we can. Roy will do the same for his team. "They've picked up well after an unsteady start and are sitting there very comfortably."
