Argentine midfielder Andres D'Alessandro will be out of the Brazilian club Internacional's lineup for up to six weeks because of a hairline fracture to his face.

D'Alessandro was fouled hard in the 59th minute of a Wednesday match against Juventude, when he took a forearm and knee to the head.

Paulo Rabelo, Internacional's medical director, tells the O Globo newspaper on its Web site the player will be examined again Thursday but that he will probably undergo surgery this weekend.

D'Alessandro is likely to be out for all of the Rio Grande do Sul state tournament and may miss the first leg of the Copa Libertadores.

The 2004 Olympic gold medal winner with the Argentine national side has been with Internacional since 2008.
