Cyprus coach picks Christofi to beef up attack
Cyprus coach Angelos Anastasiades called up talented forward Demetris Christofi on Thursday to add options to his attack for European Championship qualifiers against Norway and Denmark.
The 22-year-old Omonia Nicosia player received the call-up after a lengthy recovery from injury.
Anastasiades also recalled former national team goalkeeper Michalis Morfis. The 31-year-old Morfis now plays for second-division club PAEEK Kyrenia after leaving APOEL Nicosia in the offseason.
Cyprus started its Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a surprising 4-4 away draw against Portugal on Sept. 3. Cyprus' goal tally in that match was a national team record for an away game.
Cyprus plays Norway at home on Oct. 8 and Denmark away on Oct. 12.
