Crystal Palace: Loic Remy already injured ahead of debut
After signing for Crystal Palace in the transfer window, Loic Remy is already set for some time out at his new club.
Loic Remy joined Crystal Palace a little over a week ago but the striker wont be fit to make his debut this weekend against Middlesbrough. Remy has picked up a thigh injury and will not be available for selection, reports Sky Sports.
The injury is a blow to the plans of Palace manager Alan Pardew, but not particularly surprising given the injury record of Remy. The Frenchman is injury prone has been since all the way back to his time coming up in France.
Remy didn’t play too much during his time at Chelsea due to being frozen out of the first team picture. Injury concerns are always there with the Frenchman, though, no matter what. It’s par for the course, unfortunately.

Had he been fit, Remy could have linked up for the first time with Christian Benteke. Benteke has been at Selhurst Park a little longer than Remy, but is still a new face around the place. The pairing has the potential to be dangerous if they get enough game time together.

Benteke has the physicality to be the focal point of the attack. Whilst Remy is direct and has the speed to run in behind the opposition defense. The biggest problem might just be getting them out on the field together often enough to gel and then make an impact.
An away game against Middlesbrough might have been a good starting place, too. Boro are solid defensively, but at home, they going to have to attack Crystal Palace and go for the win. The Eagles can sit deep and play on the counter attack.
Benteke is a big striker, but he’s no slouch for pace either. A Benteke-Remy forward line could have been a real threat on the counter attack at the Riverside Stadium. Pardew will still be able to field the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Jason Puncheon and Andros Townsend among the team’s front four.
So pace on the counter attack won’t exactly be an issue. But the goal threat of a player like Remy is what will be missed. That is what the likes of Townsend, Zaha and Puncheon will not be able to replace.
Remy was brought precisely to provide the team with that added goal threat. He can’t do that from the treatment table, though. And given the 29-year-old’s history, Pardew will be hoping this is just a coincidental start, rather than a glimpse of what’s to come.
