Cruz Azul, runner-up last season in Mexico, has signed midfielder Christian Gimenez, striker Maxi Biancucchi and defender Edcarlos Concencao as it looks to bolster its bid to claim this season's Apertura title.

Cruz Azul has not won a league title since 1997 and lost the Clausura final in December to Monterrey.

The club is one of Mexico's so-called "big four" but has failed to deliver in recent years and has lost three of the last four finals.

Gimenez moves from Mexico club Pachuca and the other two from Brazilian teams - Biancucchi from Flamengo and Concencao from Fluminense.
