Corvino expects tough season for Viola
Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino insists he is not surprised by his team's slow start to the Serie A season.
"We knew this season was going to be hard," said Corvino to Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We have a new coach and several new players and the team needs time to gel.
"We've also had a lot of injury problems and although that is not an excuse, it has affected the team.
"Juan Vargas, Lorenzo De Silvestri, Alessandro Gamberini and Stevan Jovetic were injured this summer.
"Adrian Mutu is still suspended while Riccardo Montolivo and Alberto Gilardino only joined the team at the end of July.
"Hence, the whole team has not had much time to train together."
Fiorentina's problems were certainly evident in their 1-1 draw at Genoa in midweek.
Sebastien Frey came to the rescue with five great saves to make sure the Viola took home a point.
Fiorentina have also struggled up front with the Viola scoring just three times so far.
Opponents Parma held Lecce to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday to mark the Gialloblu's second successive draw and leave the Ducale club in 10th place.
Parma coach Pasquale Marino will be hoping his side show more discipline at Fiorentina than they have in previous games.
"Against Lecce, we gave away another penalty, our fourth in three games," said Marino. "I hope this habit comes to end."
Marino will have all of his players available for the trip to Tuscany with the exception of injured striker Alberto Paloschi.
