Corinthians says it is releasing former Arsenal and Valencia midfielder Edu.

Club president Andres Sanchez says Edu will leave before the end of his contract, which was due to expire in late 2011.

The 32-year-old Edu was signed in July 2009 but played only a few matches for Corinthians despite having one of the club's highest salaries at around $90,000 a month.

Sanchez said both sides agreed that Edu's stint with Corinthians ''didn't work out'' as expected.
