Jared Borgetti scored twice to guide Mexican club Morelia to its
first victory in this year's Copa Libertadores with a 2-1 home win
against Deportivo Cuenca of Ecuador on Tuesday.
Velez Sarsfield scored a last minute equalizer to draw 1-1 at
Colo Colo, while Nacional of Uruguay and Juan Aurich of Peru
registered victories in the day's other matches.
Borgetti headed the opening goal against Cuenca from a right
wing cross in the 20th minute.
The former Bolton Wanderers striker scored his second after a
pass from Elias Hernandez, turning in the box and driving in a shot
off the crossbar in the 27th. Jorge Ladines got a consolation goal
for Cuenca with a diving header in the 76th.
Morelia's win moved the club to four points from four games
in Group 6 and kept alive hopes of qualification for the last 16.
Nacional of Uruguay tops the group after Sebastian Coates and
Gonzalo Godoy scored first-half goals for a 2-0 away win over
Banfield of Argentina.
Nacional has eight points and Banfield has seven, while
Cuenca is last on three.
Santiago Silva rescued 10-man Argentine club Velez Sarsfield
with a stoppage time equalizer away against Chile's Colo Colo in
Group 7. Esteban Paredes opened the scoring for Colo Colo in the
58th minute, 10 minutes before Velez' Victor Zapata was sent off.
The draw kept Velez top of the group on seven points, three
ahead of Cruzeiro and Colo Colo after three games.
Juan Aurich had a 4-2 home win over fellow Peruvian club
Alianza Lima with goals from Roberto Guizasola, Luis Tejada,
Reimond Manco and Pedro Ascoy.
Joel Sanchez and Roberto Ovelar scored for Alianza, which
remained atop Group 3 despite the loss.
