Copa Libertadores Roundup, March 3
Chilean club Universidad Catolica scored twice in the closing minutes Thursday to defeat Argentina's Velez Sarsfield 4-3 in the Copa Libertadores.
The stunning victory gave Universidad Catolica four points in two Group 4 matches. Velez has three from two.
Despite a goal after only 40 seconds by Catolica's Lucas Pratto, Velez took control with three unanswered goals before the break - Fernando Ortiz in the 20th, Augusto Fernandez in the 21st and Emiliano Papa in the 45th - to lead 3-1.
Then things began collapse for the Argentines.
Ortiz was sent off in the 51st, and Catolica edged back with Thomas Costa cutting the lead to 3-2 in the 73rd. Catolica wrapped up the comeback in he 88th with Pratto's second goal and the winner in injury time from Francisco Pizzaro.
Also in Group 4, Caracas defeated Union Espanola 2-0. Caracas has three points in two matches and Union Espanola has one in two.
In Group 8, Liga de Quito defeated visiting Independiente of Argentina 3-0. Paul Ambrosi scored in the 10th and Miller Bolanos got a second in the 53rd with Patricio Urrutia wrapping up the scoring late in the half. Both teams have three points in two matches.
In Group 2, Gremio of Brazil defeated Peru club Leon de Huanuco 2-0. Andre Lima and Bores scored for the Brazilians. Gremio has six points, and Leon has three, after three matches.
