Copa Libertadores Roundup Feb 23
Mario Bolatti hit two first-half goals to help defending champion Internacional to a 4-0 home win over Chiapas of Mexico on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores group stage.
Bolatti scored in the 20th and 44th minutes, while Leandro Damiao found the net in the 66th and Oscar added another in stoppage time.
Also Wednesday, Pablo Barrientos scored as Argentine league champion Estudiantes had a 1-0 home win over Colombia's Deportes Tolima, while Leon de Huanuco beat Oriente Petrolero 1-0 and Fluminense drew 0-0 with Nacional.
The Copa Libertadores is Latin America's top club competition. So far, most of the 32 teams have played just one or two group games.
Bolatti turned in the box to fire Internacional ahead against Chiapas and added his second following a free kick just before the break.
Leandro Damiao bundled the ball over the line for the Brazilian club's third and Junior added a late fourth to put Internacional ahead of Ecuador's Emelec on goal difference with four points atop Group 6.
Elsewhere, Estudiantes recovered from a 5-0 drubbing by Cruzeiro in its opening match to beat Tolima thanks to a free kick from Pablo Barrientos a minute before half time.
The match was the first to be played in the reopened Unico de la Plata stadium, which has undergone a refit to host matches in the Copa America in July.
The result pulled Estudiantes level with Tolima on three points from two games in Group 7. Cruzeiro, which crushed Paraguay's Guarani 4-0 on Tuesday, leads with six points.
Peruvian club Leon de Huanuco registered its first win in the Libertadores after Carlos Zegarra scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute against Oriente Petrolero of Bolivia.
Oriente finished with 10 men after Luis Gutierrez was sent off in stoppage time.
Huanuco, competing in its first Libertadores in its 65-year history, climbed atop group 2 ahead of Colombian club Atletico Junior's home match against Brazil's Gremio on Thursday. Oriente has lost both its openers.
Brazilian league champion Fluminense drew its second match in a row in a scoreless encounter with Nacional of Uruguay in Group 3.
The group is led by Mexican club America, which travels to Argentinos Juniors on Thursday.
