RFC, a consortium led by former Northampton Town chairman Andrew Ellis, says it is in ``advanced negotiations'' to buy a controlling interest in Rangers.

In a statement to the stock exchange on Wednesday, RFC confirmed talks with Rangers chairman David Murray have taken place but said that a price or timeline for the deal have not been established.

It added that if the two parties agree terms, RFC will be obliged by law to make an offer on the remaining share capital of the Glasgow club.

There have been reports that a bid would be funded in part by investment from Dubai and Qatar.
