A Spanish TV commercial featuring Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina apparently was taken off air following complaints the advertisement was racist and homophobic.
British campaign group Operation Black Vote (OBV) complained to Spanish insurance firm Groupama Seguros that one commercial from a series featuring Reina "depicts black people in a jungle scenario as stupid, backward, animalistic homosexuals."
The advertisement plays on Reina's surname, which translates as "queen," and shows the Spain international being introduced to a tribal chief who chooses him as his partner.
OBV claims the commercial has been pulled from Spanish TV since its complaint.
Groupama agreed to withdraw the advertisement from Spanish TV, but in a statement denied it was offensive. The statement said, "Groupama Seguros does not consider that this advertisement contains either offensive nor any discriminatory content."
Liverpool was involved in a race storm earlier this season when striker Luis Suarez was banned for eight games for abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
