Cologne says it has fined and suspended Slawomir Peszko after the Polish midfielder spent Saturday night in police custody after a drink-related incident.

The Bundesliga side says Peszko was taken into custody after ''the player consumed alcohol and became involved in a dispute with a taxi driver.''

Peszko confirmed the incident during talks with Cologne coach Stake Solbakken and board chairman Claus Horstmann.

Cologne says the 27-year-old Peszko will be hit with a heavy fine and suspended from the squad indefinitely.

The club fined defender Miso Brecko earlier this season for crashing his car under the influence as Cologne's carnival celebrations began.

Cologne currently occupies the relegation playoff place with five games to go.
