Cologne loses Lukas Podolski appeal
Cologne has lost its appeal against Lukas Podolski's one-game ban for the forward's sending off in a Bundesliga match.
The German Football Federation (DFB) said Friday that it was upholding its decision to suspend Podolski after the forward was sent off in the 76th minute of Cologne's 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin last Saturday.
Cologne had argued that Podolski committed ''no crime'' to earn a red card after becoming involved in a dispute with Hertha defender Levan Kobiashvili, when both players were sent off.
DFB sports court president Hans E. Lorenz says, ''Podolski contributed to the pack of angry players and grabbed his opponent's jersey in the chest area. Therefore Podolski did not do nothing.''
Podolski will miss Sunday's visit to Hannover.
