Twente, who finished as runners-up to Ajax in the 2010/11 Eredivisie and lifted the KNVB Beker, turned to the 63-year-old after former coach Michel Preud'homme resigned earlier this month to take charge of Saudia Arabia. Veteran coach Adriaanse, whose coaching CV includes spells in Holland, Portugal, Ukraine, Austria and most recently Qatar, has signed an initial one-year deal and reckons he still has plenty to offer. He said: "I have the energy and ambition. And, at a time when the Netherlands has a lot of good young coaches coming forward, I think I have something to add. FC Twente offers me this chance." Club and coach will review progress made by the middle of the season to decide whether to extend Adriaanse's stay at the helm. "A contract for two or three years is at the most a life insurance," he said. "Halfway through the season there will be an evaluation. If both sides agree, I will sign for another year. That process can be repeated infinitely." Adriaanse has not coached in his homeland since leaving AZ Alkmaar in 2005 and, despite having expressed reluctance to return in the past, was thrilled to be back in Holland. He added: "I do not come primarily for money. I come because FC Twente are a great club and because I want us to become champions. "If I feel fit, happy and the results are good, it is possible that I will stay longer."
