Manchester City has signed former England under-21 winger Adam Johnson from Middlesbrough on a 4 1/2-year contract.

Johnson has joined for an undisclosed fee and will wear the No. 11 shirt vacated by Robinho when the Brazil forward went on loan to Santos last week.

The 22-year-old Johnson stayed at Middlesbrough following its relegation at the end of last season but had still been linked with several Premier League clubs.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says "he is a very good player with fantastic potential."

Johnson is City's second signing of the winter transfer window after France midfielder Patrick Vieira joined from Inter Milan.
