Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Michael Chopra is in talks regarding a move away from Portman Road.

The 29-year-old striker has been deemed surplus to requirements in Suffolk and has been informed that he is free to find himself a new club.

He would appear to be closing on a switch, with transfer talks being held.

Chopra played no part in Ipswich's 3-0 friendly victory over Colchester on Tuesday, suggesting that an exit is imminent.

McCarthy is reluctant to speculate on the outcome of the discussions that are under way, but admits the former Sunderland and Cardiff man could soon be heading for pastures new.

He said in the Green Un: "He's talking to clubs, or talking to a club.

"I wouldn't disclose what he is doing, but he is talking to a club."

Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley have been heavily linked with a move for Chopra during the summer transfer window.
