Chivas dropped to last place in Mexico's first division on Sunday after losing 3-1 to Pachuca, while bitter rivals America drew 1-1 with Cruz Azul in an earlier weekend match to remain atop the league standings with three rounds remaining.

Santos Laguna improved to second after winning 3-2 against Monterrey on Friday, when Leon slipped to third with a 2-0 loss to Queretaro.

In other weekend results, Toluca and Tijuana had a 0-0 draw, Puebla defeated Atlas 2-0, Tigres overcame Atlante 3-1, Veracruz won 1-0 against Morelia and Chiapas drew 1-1 with Pumas.

Chivas have won just once in 13 games this Apertura - the first of Mexico's two split championships - in one of the worst seasons in the popular club's recent history.
