Toluca kicked off their Mexican Apertura campaign with a 2-1 victory over Guadalajara on Sunday night.

First-half goals from Carlos Esquivel and Juan Carlos Cacho put the hosts in the ascendancy, with Rafael Marquez Lugo's strike midway through the second period proving nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.

The match was Dutch coach John Van't Schip's debut in charge of Chivas.

Van't Schip was recommended for the job by club adviser and former Dutch great Johan Cruyff as the famous side tries to rebuild.
