China's Guangzhou Evergrande signs Elkeson
Chinese Super League champion Guangzhou Evergrande says it has signed Brazilian midfielder Elkeson for four years at a transfer fee of 5.7 million euros ($7.5 million).
The 23-year-old previously played for Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo.
The Chinese club said in a statement on its website Monday that Elkeson will arrive in Guangzhou in the first week of January. It says that having Elkeson will strengthen the team's midfield attack and improve its offensive capabilities.
Earlier this year, the big-spending club brought in coach Marcello Lippi, who took Italy to the 2006 World Cup title, and signed Paraguay striker Lucas Barrios.
Guangzhou is owned by Xu Jiayin, a Chinese billionaire who has made his fortune in real estate and renamed the club after his company when he bought the team.
