Celtic and Sporting to play at Fenway on July 21

There will be a different kind of pitch at Fenway Park this summer.

Fresh off the NHL's Winter Classic and a series of midseason concerts, Fenway Park will host a soccer match between Celtic FC of Scotland and Sporting CP of Portugal.

The Fenway Football Challenge will be July 21 at the home of the Boston Red Sox.

Celtic previously played at Fenway Park in 1931, when it was defeated by the New York Yankees of the American Soccer League.

The match will be the 19th soccer game played on the grounds of Fenway Park. The last was on July 9, 1968, when Pele brought Santos FC from Brazil to face the Boston Beacons.

Fenway hosted the NHL's annual New Year's Day game this year. It has also been the home recently to concerts by the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the Dave Matthews Band.
