Catania continues impressive Serie A run
Lecce's miserable home form continued on Saturday as they went down 1-0 to a last-minute goal against Catania.
The Salentini have collected seven of their eight points on the road in Serie A, but have now taken just one from a possible 18 at the Stadio Via del Mare after Pablo Barrientos scored a dramatic winner.
Catania started brightly and had numerous chances in the first half, with Alejandro Gomez shooting narrowly wide after five minutes.
Gonzalo Bergessio also fired wide five minutes later and Gomez soon had another chance following good work from Gennaro Delvecchio, only to also fail to find the target.
When the visitors did finally improve their accuracy, Delvecchio's shot was easily saved by Lecce goalkeeper Massimiliano Benassi after 19 minutes.
Benassi also saved from the same player 10 minutes later before Lecce created their first real chance of the game on 34 minutes.
Rodney Strasser fired in a left-footed shot from the centre of the box but Mariano Andujar was alert to the danger and saved smartly.
Andujar also saved well from Luis Murial just before the interval as the first half ended goalless.
Lecce carried on where they left off in the second half but Massimo Oddo and Christian Obodo both shot wide, before Benassi was called into action at the other end to save from Sergio Almiron.
It looked like both sides would claim a point when substitute Barrientos saw his 89th-minute shot superbly saved by Benassi, but there was still time for Barrientos to fire home the winner in the dying seconds after being set up by Maxi Lopez.
