CAS rejects Rayo Vallecano's Europa League appeal
Financially troubled Rayo Vallecano has failed to overturn its exclusion from the Europa League over unpaid debts.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it dismissed the club's appeal against a Spanish football association refusal to grant a license to play in UEFA competitions.
CAS issued an urgent ruling Wednesday, one day after hearing the case. The court will issue a full verdict ''as soon as possible.''
The ruling clears Sevilla, which placed ninth in the league, to host Mladost Podgorica on Thursday in a Europa League qualifying match.
Rayo Vallecano placed eighth and could have earned the berth vacated by sixth-place Malaga, which was banned by UEFA for financial problems.
However, the Spanish federation denied the club's license request because of overdue unpaid debts.
