Carroll eyes run in Reds side
Carroll, 22, netted his third goal of the season in the 2-0 win at West Brom on Saturday to enhance his claims of a regular role in Kenny Dalglish's starting line-up. He enjoyed arguably his best game for the club at The Hawthorns since his big-money arrival from Newcastle, showing signs of forming a deadly partnership with Luis Suarez. The big striker admits he was disappointed to find himself on the bench for the last two Premier League games against Manchester United and Norwich, and he believes his hard work is now paying off. "Luis is a great player, he works hard for the team so it is nice to have him up top with me - it makes it a lot easier," noted Carroll. "He makes chances and can score goals himself so he is a great player himself. He can drop off and get the ball to his feet to dribble with it and slip people in. "We are playing well together at the minute and hope it will carry on. I must admit I have been disappointed to be on the bench. "I have been working hard to get my place and I think I have earned it. I played well last week and getting a goal as well this weekend was even better." Carroll is now hoping to force his way back into the England side for next month's friendlies with Spain and Sweden, having not started a game since the friendly with Ghana last March. "It would be nice to be involved with England and to get a run-out in the friendly," admitted Carroll. "I am working hard in training every day to get my fitness up. I can only say I am working my hardest to get back the way I was. "I just need to keep getting my name on the starting sheet every week and see what happens from there. "It is disappointing when you are sitting on the bench but it only makes you work harder the next day in training to get your place back."
