Botafogo says Caio Jr. will not coach the club in the last three Brazilian league matches.
Botafogo said on Thursday on its website that the coach and the club mutually agreed on him leaving his post immediately. The announcement came a day after Botafogo fell 2-1 to second-to-last America, marking its third loss in a row.
The result could ultimately cost the team a chance to play in next year's Copa Libertadores, as only the top five teams will advance.
Botafogo was contending for the league title until losing the three consecutive matches to drop to fifth in the 20-team standings.
