New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill scored his record-tying 29th goal for Australia in a 1-0 exhibition win over Costa Rica on Tuesday.
Cahill's goal, on a header in the 69th minute, tied the Australian mark set by Damian Mori from 1992-02. The 33-year-old Cahill made his debut for Australia in 2004.
Ange Postecoglou coached the Socceroos for the first time. He replaced Holger Osieck, who was fired after consecutive 6-0 losses to Brazil and France in exhibitions.
Australia and Costa Rica are preparing for the World Cup in June.
