New York Red Bulls forward Tim Cahill is not ruling out a temporary return to English football in January and is expecting interest from clubs.

Cahill left Everton in the summer of 2012 for Major League Soccer and he claims he was wanted by Premier League teams in January this year.

He has again been linked with a short-term loan in the New Year in order to maintain his fitness ahead of Australia's participation at the World Cup.

The 33-year-old is anticipating approaches, but has yet to make a decision on whether to move when the transfer window reopens.

"In the last loan period, three or four clubs came in and one was really close to signing me," Cahill told The Sun.

"It was from the Premier League and it went all the way up to the wire. It was to stay fit.

"I'm definitely going to get a lot of shouts again now and there will always be people knocking at the door.

"But I have to assess where my body's going to be for the next World Cup for Australia and also my fitness leading in Brazil."
