Cahill keeping patient over England

The 24-year-old stopper has made just one appearance for his country, having appeared off the bench in last month's Euro 2012 qualifying win over Bulgaria. Cahill is keen to make as many caps as possible under Capello, but is behind some illustrious company in the pecking order. Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott made up Tuesday's partnership against Montenegro while the likes of John Terry and Michael Dawson on the sidelines, but he is staying positive on his chances. "There are a couple of players in my position that are struggling with long-term injuries, and re-occurring niggles that seem to crop up all the time," he told the Bolton News. "Staying fit is half the game if you want to stay up the pecking order. It's a case of biding my time and working hard because sometimes it can be frustrating. "All I can do is try and keep playing well for Bolton and take my chances when they come along." Cahill has missed games for Bolton recently following his red card against Arsenal and the defender felt his enforced absence did little help sway Capello's mind. "I don't think that helped my cause one bit," he said. "But I thought I played well against West Brom. "At the minute, sometimes I'm in the squad, sometimes I'm not, sometimes I'm on the bench, and sometimes I'm not. It's up and down all the time. "But there's nothing I can do about that apart from keep playing well. Whether I get in the England squad or not is out of my hands. "Staying fit is a big thing but more importantly I have to keep up my form week-in, week-out for my club."
