The Confederation of African Football has lifted a six-month ban on the outspoken president of the Liberia Football Association, who had criticized the continental body's leadership for contentious election rule changes.
CAF said Monday its executive committee had decided to lift the ban on Hassan Bility ''with immediate effect.'' His sanction for accessing CAF documents was only set to expire in November. CAF did not give any reason for lifting the suspension early.
Bility was banned and his federation fined $10,000 in May after CAF said he accessed minutes of a previous executive committee meeting without permission. Before that, Bility and his LFA had challenged CAF over new rules that made it harder for potential candidates to challenge longtime president Issa Hayatou of Cameroon as the head of African football.
