The Republic of Ireland midfielder has not played for the Premier League new-boys since last April due to a thigh injury. Rodgers is yet to feature under Rodgers and the Swans boss feels it is only fair to give the 30-year-old a chance to impress. Butler is one of only a few Swansea players to bring Premier League experience to the table, although he accepts he will need to work on his fitness. "Tommy has been offered another year's deal and he will sign this week," commented Rodgers. "I felt it was only fair to Tommy because his contract was up and I haven't seen him play since I came to the club. "He's actually one of the few players to have played in the Premier League, so I felt it was a fair to give him an opportunity and chance. "He knows he has a lot of work to do in terms of his fitness we will review it from there."
