Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has a fever and could miss friendlies against the Netherlands and Sweden over the next week.

Buffon did not show up for training with the rest of Italy's team Tuesday, although coach Marcello Lippi wasn't about to rule the Juventus player out.

Lippi said "Buffon has seven lives, like a cat. Let's wait and see."

Italy's reserve goalkeepers are Morgan De Sanctis of Napoli and Federico Marchetti of Cagliari.

The World Cup champions face the Netherlands on Saturday in Pescara and Sweden four days later in Cesena.
