Brest withstood a second-half battering to sneak a narrow 1-0 win over Ligue 1 giants Marseille.
The home side came into the game without a win in four games, but boosted by the knowledge Marseille had not beaten them on their own ground in their previous eight top-flight trips to Brest.
That run was extended as Marseille, who beat Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek, were brought back down to earth through Paul Baysse's header.
Brest started quite positively as Abel Khaled drove forward, taking on three defenders and firing in a shot which Steve Mandanda managed to save.
The hosts had a further chance in the 16th minute when Nicolas N'Koulou gifted the ball to Benoit Lesoimier, who feinted nicely before shooting, left-footed, and forcing another decent save from Mandanda.
A minute later, the deadlock was broken.
Bruno Grougi swung in a teasing corner which Baysse rose highest to nod beyond the stranded Mandanda.
Marseille's response was less than emphatic, although in the 31st minute Jordan Ayew whipped in a cross which Brandao headed past goalkeeper Steeve Elana, only for his effort to hit the post for Omar Daf to clear.
Marseille had dominated possession and began the second half with attacking intent.
Ten minutes after the break their search for a goal left them open at the back as Mandanda had to be alert to save from Dialo Guidileye.
Elana then matched him in style, pushing Rod Fanni's shot on to the post and saving from Benoit Cheyrou on the rebound.
Andre Ayew saw a header just shave the post and went close again from a header in the 79th minute as Marseille continued to press.
In added time the same striker met Mathieu Valbuena's free-kick, again with a header, but again Elana was equal to it as he made a sublime reflex save.
From the resulting corner Fanni beat Elana with a header but Eden Ben Basat was on the line to clear and protect the win.
