Fluminense retained its lead in Brazil's first division with a 1-0 win over Vasco da Gama at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday in one of the league's classic rivalries.

Tarta scored for Fluminense in the first half, giving the winners 61 points atop the standings. Corinthians and Cruzeiro are second with 60 points.

Corinthians defeated Sao Paulo 2-0 and Cruzeiro beat Vitoria 1-0. Dentinho and Elias scored for Corinthians and Thiago Ribeiro got the lone goal for Cruzeiro.

After the top three in Brazil, the standings are: Botafogo 55, Atletico PR and Gremio with 53, Santos and International with 51.

Young star Neymar scored two goals as Santos rallied to a 2-2 draw with Atletico Mineiro. Tardelli and Obina scored for Atletico Mineiro.

Botafogo of Rio de Janeiro and Avai drew 0-0.

In other results it was: Gremio 5, Ceara 1; Atletico-GO 2, Internacional 2; Prudente 4, Goias 1; Palmeiras 1 Guarani 0; Flamengo 0, Atletico PR 1.
