A Brazilian congressman is trying to launch a congressional investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the 2014 World Cup organizing committee.
Legislator Anthony Garotinho is seeking support to create a panel to investigate the committee's norms for profit distribution and its deals with sponsors and television networks, among other things.
Brazilian federation president Ricardo Teixeira was in the capital of Brasilia talking to legislators this week, apparently trying to keep Garotinho from gathering all the signatures needed to launch the investigation.
The federation has denied any irregularities.

Attempts to contact Teixeira and other members of the Brazilian federation on Thursday were not successful.
