Bougherra intends to stand firm
Madjid Bougherra has never been on the losing side in an Old Firm derby and the Rangers defender insists he has no plans to start now.
The Algerian has been involved in five games against Celtic since his move to Glasgow in 2008, winning four and drawing one.
He is determined to maintain that record when Neil Lennon's men come calling in Sunday's clash at Ibrox as both Glasgow giants bid to start the new year with three points and the all-important bragging rights.
Bougherra said: "All the players in the team know that this will be a tough game and, even if we win and go a couple of points clear at the top of the league, this will count for nothing until the final month.
"In the past we have seen that any team can come back quickly so if we can beat Celtic it will be good for our confidence but there is still a long, long way to go.
"But, of course, it's a game we want to win, not only for the team but for the fans as well.
"A draw is not a bad result but, as a player, you can't go in to the match thinking this way, that is impossible.
"You need to give everything to win."
Rangers came out on top in the first Old Firm derby of the season with a 3-1 win at Celtic Park in October.
But Celtic have the psychological edge heading into this match after their midweek win over Motherwell allowed them to move into pole position in the Scottish Premier League.
Rangers' own match at St Johnstone fell victim to the weather, denying them the opportunity to hold onto top spot, but Bougherra was not disappointed by the postponement.
He told the Rangers website: "Honestly, for me, it is good that the game was called off.
"We take a rest before the Celtic game and after a big start to the season in which we have played many games I think it was a good moment to recover and we can now be ready for the next step in January."
