Boss Appy with McLeod display
Manager Michael Appleton hailed Izale McLeod after the striker double earned Portsmouth a 3-1 home win over Shrewsbury on Saturday.
McLeod struck twice after Wes Thomas had opened the scoring in the League One clash at Fratton Park and the home side held on despite a Marvin Morgan consolation.
Appleton said: "Izale is a brilliant finisher. He takes his goals very well. If he gets a chance he puts it away.
"He is on a good run of form at the minute. Izale is a good striker and I was pleased with his work-rate.
"I was delighted with the three points. We would have lost that game three to six weeks ago, so it was a massive three points for us.
"If we perform like that each week, though, we will not win many matches. We did not perform at our best for long periods."
