Bolton tops Toronto on penalty kicks
Premier League club Bolton has defeated Toronto FC of Major League Soccer on penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night.
Bolton won 4-3 on penalty kicks to claim the Carlsberg Cup, after Oscar Cordon was stopped on Toronto's final try. Toronto dropped to 0-4-3 at BMO Field against international clubs.
Matt Taylor gave Bolton a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, and Maicon Santos capped a series of passes with a header into the corner of the net to tie the game in the 46th minute.
Toronto coach Predrag Radosvljevic gave many of his regular players the night off, with the second half of the MLS season set to begin Saturday. The Wanderers also substituted liberally with the start of their Premier League season three weeks away.
Toronto was the final stop of Bolton's three-game North American tour.
