Boca Juniors boost title hopes
Boca Juniors scored two late goals to beat 10-man Tigre 2-1 on Sunday and move within two points of the lead in Argentina's first division.
Tigre took the lead in the 17th minute through an own goal by Claudio Perez, before being reduced to 10 men in the 52nd when Matias Perez Garcia was sent off for a second yellow card.
Midfielder Leandro Paredes equalized in the 84th minute and defender Daniel Diaz got the winner two minutes into injury time at La Bombonera.
''This is not the ideal way to win,'' Boca coach Carlos Bianchi told reporters. ''We put on three more forwards, but you never know if this will work - or not work. We had five forwards out there, but they were not the ones to score.''
Newell's Old Boys stayed top with a 1-1 draw on Saturday against San Lorenzo. Newell's improved to 29 with San Lorenzo and Boca on 27 with four rounds remaining in the first-half championship.
Like many Latin American countries, Argentina splits it season into two parts.
Also on Sunday, Belgrano defeated Colon 2-0 with both goals coming from Cesar Pereyra, and Argentinos Juniors beat Racing Club 1-0 with Hernan Boyero scoring the winner in the 52nd.
On Saturday, it was Olimpo 0, Quilmes 1; All Boys 2, Gimnasia 1; and Estudiantes 1, Rosario Central 1. On Friday, Atletico Rafaela beat Godoy Cruz 3-1.
