Boca ends season with draw

Boca Juniors wrapped up the first half of the Argentine first-division season with a lackluster 1-1 draw against Gimnasia Sunday.

Franco Mussis scored early for Gimnasia, before Emmanuel Gigliotti equalized to start the second half.

The match at La Bombonera had little meaning with Boca out of contention for the first-half title.

The first-half title will be decided next Sunday with two games: Newell's vs. Lanus and Velez Sarsfield vs. San Lorenzo. San Lorenzo leads with 32 points, while the three others trail by two. Boca finished with 29 points.

Argentina, like many Latin American countries, holds two titles per season.

In other weekend results, Belgrano downed All Boys 1-0; Racing defeated Godoy Cruz 2-0; Rosario Central beat Argentinos 2-1, Rafaela drew 1-1 with Arsenal and Tigre beat Estudiantes 2-0. In the late game, River Plate drew 1-1 at fellow strugglers Quilmes.

Goals from Pablo Vitti and Matias Perez Garcia ensured Tigre ended their Apertura campaign with a 2-0 win at Estudiantes.

Vitti opened the scoring after 15 minutes and Perez Garcia finished things off with a second nine minutes into the second period.

Any thoughts of a comeback for the home side were put to bed when they had Juan Veron sent off after 73 minutes.

Carlos Carbonero netted a late leveller as River Plate snatched a 1-1 draw at 10-man Quilmes.

The hosts took the lead less than a minute into the second half through Lucas Godoy, but they had Cristian Lema sent off five minutes later and Carbonero took advantage in the closing moments.

Emanuel Gigliotti's 49th-minute goal earned Boca Jniors a 1-1 draw against Gimnasia La Plata, who had taken the lead through Franco Mussis (37).
