Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has been suspended for two Bundesliga matches after being sent off in a 2-1 loss at Hannover.

The loss was Bayern's first in eight league matches and cut its lead in the Bundesliga to three points.

Boateng was sent off for hitting out at Christian Schultz after players from both sides became embroiled in a melee following Rafinha's tackle on Hannover midfielder Sergio Pinto.

Bayern officials accused Pinto of playacting. Hannover also finished the match with 10 men after Steve Cherundolo was sent off.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness said Pinto's behavior belonged ''to Los Angeles and the Oscar awards.''

Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge suggested Pinto ''should go to a church and confess.''

''His antics started the whole circus,'' Rummenigge added.
