Blackburn have been given a boost with the news that striker Leon Best will play for the U21s against Sunderland on Monday night.

Best has been on the sidelines after sustaining a cruciate knee injury last summer following his ?3m switch from Newcastle.

The player has undergone seven months of rehabilitation since he was injured during a pre-season friendly match against AEK Athens.

Rovers boss Michael Appleton confirmed Best will play along with Dickson Etuhu and Adam Henley, while Fabio Nunes and Josh Morris will get a run-out as well.

"We've got a reserve team game tonight which is going to be good because Leon Best will get his first game," Appleton said.

"Dickson Etuhu will get a run-out tonight, Adam Henley, Fabio Nunes and Josh Morris, so there is going to be a few faces that have been in and around the first team that are going to be playing this evening.

"So I'm looking forward to seeing how they do before I travel up to Hull."
