Bendtner issues arrest apology
The 23-year-old Denmark international, on a season loan from Arsenal, was held by Northumbria Police on Friday along with Black Cats team-mate Lee Cattermole after cars were damaged in Newcastle city centre. The pair were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and bailed following an incident in Stowell Street at about 10pm on December 6. In a statement published on the website of Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, addressed to "friends, fans, Sunderland and my family", he said he was "incredibly sad" at recent events. He added: "My most important goal right now is getting rid of my injury and getting back in top form - for Sunderland and Denmark. "I hope you will understand that I am therefore now intending to concentrate on football, and just about football - it is here and only here that my focus must lie."
