Beckham to sue magazine over claims in Germany

David Beckham will file suit in Germany against the U.S. magazine that published claims the soccer superstar had sex with prostitutes, a spokesman said Thursday.

Publicist Jeff Raymond said the former captain of England's national team will sue In Touch magazine in several jurisdictions beginning Friday but declined to provide more details.

Beckham's management company, 19 Entertainment, said in a statement that the allegations in the weekly In Touch are ''completely untrue and totally ridiculous as the magazine was clearly told before publication.

''Sadly we live in a world where a magazine can print lies and believe they can get away with it. We are taking legal action against the magazine,'' the statement said.

Beckham has been married to former Spice Girl singer Victoria Beckham for 11 years. The couple has three sons.

The magazine quotes 26-year-old Irma Nici, who says she was a call girl who slept with Beckham five times in 2007. She claims he also had sex with a second prostitute.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS.

In Touch's publisher, Bauer Media, is based in Hamburg.
