German prosecutors have charged Bayern Munich defender Breno with aggravated arson after his rented villa was burnt down last year.

Prosecutors in Munich announced their decision on Wednesday and say the charge carries a possible prison sentence of between one and 15 years. It wasn't immediately clear when the case might go to trial.

Breno was arrested after his villa caught fire last September but the Brazilian was released on bail with Bayern's help. The club also obtained permission from authorities for Breno to travel with the club to Qatar for a midseason training camp in January.

Prosecutors say in their statement that Breno hasn't responded to the accusations against him.
