Bayern progress thrills van Gaal
Louis van Gaal was thrilled with Bayern Munich's win over Basle and their entire Champions League campaign, saying "it hardly gets any better".
Bayern, who had already sealed top spot in Group E and therefore had little to play for at the Allianz Arena, won 3-0 over their Swiss opponents, who knew a win could keep them in the competition.
"We played like a team," said Van Gaal. "We have won and scored goals again and that is the most important thing in football."
Van Gaal was particularly pleased with the way last year's Champions League finalists, who have endured mixed fortunes in the
Bundesliga this season, cruised through the group stages without any difficulty.
"We were not in the most difficult of groups, but we have come through it," he said on his club's website.
"It may have looked easy, but it wasn't. I can only be satisfied that we were already group winners after five games.
"We scored plenty of goals and conceded very few. It hardly gets any better."
Bayern will now be looking forward to next Friday's draw in which they, as group winners, will face one of the runners-up from the other groups.
However, that does not necessarily guarantee them an easy tie with the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan, Arsenal and Valencia all potential opponents, alongside Lyon, Marseille and FC Copenhagen.
"They are all good teams and we will just have to wait and see," said Van Gaal.
