A player for Bayern Munich has been charged with arson after his rented villa burned down last year.

Breno, a Brazilian defender, was charged by German prosecutors in Munich on Wednesday. They say the charge of aggravated arson carries a possible prison sentence of one to 15 years.

It wasn't immediately clear when the case might go to trial. Prosecutors say in their statement Breno hasn't responded to the accusations.

Breno was arrested after his villa caught fire last September. He was released on bail with Bayern's help. The club also obtained permission for Breno to travel to Qatar for a midseason training camp in January.
